How Virtual IOP Works

Real treatment. Your kitchen table.

Structured intensive care built on the ASAM criteria — group therapy, individual sessions, and psychiatry drawing on CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing — not unstructured counseling on a screen.

You join from a laptop, tablet, or phone with one click. No app to download, no commute, and the same small group of people every week.

  • Morning, midday, or evening — keep your job and your routine
  • Dual diagnosis in the same week, with the same clinicians
  • Cameras on. Same small group. Every session.

Questions

The things people actually ask

Straight answers about virtual IOP, schedule, and what happens if this isn't the right level of care.

01What is a virtual IOP, exactly?

An intensive outpatient program delivered over secure video. You attend three group sessions a week — about nine hours total — plus individual therapy and psychiatry, all from home. It's a structured, licensed level of care (ASAM 2.1), not a casual support group, and it typically runs eight to twelve weeks.

02Is virtual IOP as effective as in-person treatment?

For many people in intensive outpatient care, telehealth programs have shown outcomes comparable to in-person treatment. The structure is identical — the same hours, the same licensed clinicians, the same group model. If we believe you need a higher level of care than we provide, we'll tell you honestly and help you find it.

03What do I need to attend?

A laptop, tablet, or phone with a camera, a reasonably private space, and an internet connection. We send a link before each session — one click and you're in. Our team helps you test your setup before your first group.

04Can I do this while working full time?

Yes — that's the point of the schedule. Three groups run daily in morning, midday, and evening blocks, three hours each, three days a week. Most of our clients keep their job, their classes, and their family routine while in treatment.

05What if I need a higher level of care?

Your first clinical assessment determines the right level of care, and we reassess throughout treatment. If you need detox, residential care, or a partial hospitalization program, we coordinate a referral to a licensed program and stay involved so nothing falls through the cracks.

06Do you prescribe medication?

Psychiatry is part of the program. Our prescribers evaluate whether medication would help, manage it if so, and coordinate medication-assisted treatment for substance use when clinically appropriate.

07How much does it cost if insurance doesn't cover it?

We'll quote you a self-pay rate in writing before you commit to anything. There are no surprise bills — you'll know your exact cost, covered or not, after one phone call.

08Do I have to have a substance use diagnosis?

No. We treat mental health conditions — depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, OCD — on their own track, substance use on another, and co-occurring conditions together. Your assessment determines the right track.

09What happens on the first call?

About fifteen minutes: we listen, answer your questions, and take your insurance details so we can verify your benefits. If it feels like a fit, we schedule a clinical assessment. There's no obligation at any point.

In crisis right now? Don't wait for an intake call.
